| As you know, in Harry Potter, lots of names are translated in "French version" (Snape -> Rogue; Hooch -> Bibine etc.)
What do you think about that translation ? Is the jokes in the names are well translated ?
Give your opinion | |

| I think the English names are better than the French. It's totally ridiculous to change the names because they are English and not French. | |

| You cannot consider it as ridiculous. Most of the readers are children who don´t know a single word of English, so if you want them to understand the puns you´ve got to try to translate it, even if it looks a bit weird or clumsy. You just cannot blame the translator for trying to adapt the text in a french way. | |

| I think the French translation is quite good for most of the names. However, some are quite... strange. Why Ludovic Bagman goes to Ludo Verpey, Crouch to Croupton ? There's non-sense, no ? | |

| Actually, I prefer french names sorry jana but I don't understand why Ménard has translate some names and someones not!! Dumbledore for exemple, it's difficult to say in french! I hate Snape, it's look like Snake so I prefer Rogue = sévére | |

| Dumbledore isn´t that difficult to say in French... Just gotta say Deumbeuldore, like Madame Maxime does in book 4! I think it isn´t a matter of pronunciation, the most important is the meaning, isn´t it? So if it is well understood with the french translation, there´s no problem. | |

| Hey Kokonut, as you re new among us, i will just tell you : don't be upset, i'm gonna correct some mistakes as i do for everyone here. " You're not bound to put - Citation :
- I prefer very much
, it's not really correct..you should say: I do prefer. - Citation :
- that's it's easily
"that" is already the subject so you don't need to put the" It"... "That's easier" is correct. to say: " de plus " ( i s'pose that's what you wanted to say with "more") the translation is: "moreover". Then last little thing wich can seem useless, but anyway...in English, Beurk is Yuck. One little correction for my niece: - Citation :
- it's best
= It's better | |

| There are strange translations. For exemple, "Snape" and "Rogue" don't have the same signification (or "Croupton" and "Crouch").
(by the way, is there a pun in French with "Verpey" and "VRP" ? and with "Bagman" (a man with a bag, so a businessman ?)) | |
